Best Places to Solo Travel

solo travel

Solo travel is something everyone should do at least once in their lifetime. What better way to unwind and find out more about yourself as a human than traveling alone, Solo travel forces you to make decisions on your own, and step out of your comfort zone. Another benefit of solo travel is being able to create your own schedule. You can wake up whenever you want, go to sleep whenever you want, eat breakfast for lunch, or even pizza for breakfast! It is your time, and only your time to waste or thrive. Check out these five of our top destinations to travel to solo!

1. Sedona, Arizona

Be enraptured by the soul-nourishing scenery and hike among the geological wonders of Sedona Arizona. Sedona trails reach elevations above 8,000 ft, which provide you views of a lifetime. Trek along the canyons of Arizona to see the timeless layers of stone that date back millions of years. People travel all over the world to see the iconic red rocks in Sedona. This is the best place to visit if you are looking to warm up during the winter months. Due to the elevation levels, it stays hot all year long averaging 50-55 degrees during these months. Did you know the famous Western films, “Billy the Kid” and “Broken Arrow” were filmed here? Hollywood began filming in this desert location back in the 1940s and 50s because of the desolate scenery and bright red rocks. The best activity to do while out in Sedona is to visit the Rainbow Trout Farm. Yes, they are open, no fishing license required, BBQ and picnic tables are available, and the best thing is that it is only $8-$15 per person! Who wouldn’t want to relax and catch locally raised, and fresh rainbow trout!

Where to eat: From Bangers and Mash to Chicken farm and blackened steak. There are 167 restaurants in Sedona, but the top 3 we recommend are the Casa Sedona Restaurant, the Golden Goose American Grill, and the Red Rock Cafe!

2. San Diego, California

As a solo traveler, you can find many activities to do! The first stop is Balboa Park, the largest urban park in the country. Home to more than 16 museums, performing arts venues, gardens, trails, and the San Diego Zoo! Next, check out the white lush sand of Coronado Beach, and surf the waves at Mission Beach! The final attraction you must try while traveling to San Diego is taking a kayak tour through the sea caves of La Jolla!

Where to eat: San Diego makes it easy for solo travelers to embrace dining out alone. Check out the famous In-and-Out burger if you are looking for a drive-thru option or Colima’s Mexican Food in North Park. Hodad’s in Ocean Beach even has a street-facing bar, so while you are chowing down on an amazing burger you can watch all the cars and people going by!

This is a preferred destination for paranormal investigators and tourists who love ghost hunting! It has even been said that Marie Laveau introduced the first exorcisms and voodoo rituals in America! She was known as the Voodoo Queen back in the day! Besides Ghost hunting, there are many other attractions to do while on your solo travel! Drive or run across the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway which is home to the longest continuous bridge in the world! Also check out the Mardi Gras Parade on February 16, 2021, for a day of drinking and memory-making.

Where to eat: Throw away all your preconceived ideas of New Orlean style food, and dive into all the cajun and creole style foods! Gumbo, crawfish, jambalaya, beignets and that’s just the start! The top three places to visit according to the travel advisor are GW Fins, Mambo’s, and Olde Nola Cookery!
